ABOUT THE SOUPS
All of our soups are gluten free, soy free, and seed oil free. However, we cook with ghee which does not make it dairy free but the milk proteins are removed in the ghee making process so many people with dairy sensitivities tend to handle ghee well. Most of our soups have a vegetarian option but none of our soups are vegan.
We prioritize local farms with more-than-organic standards first. Because the USDA organic certification is so expensive, many small farms and ranches can’t afford the certification so we always ask questions about their process to ensure the produce or meat is of the highest quality which could include practices such as biodynamic farming, regenerative agriculture, and/or pasture raised. What we can’t get local, we source from organic suppliers.
While frozen soups have their own hurdles for shipping and delivery, we believe frozen is the best way to maintain high nutrient content and reduce food waste. The shelf stable soups you see in the store have been pasteurized at high temps which kills off many of the nutrients. And refrigerated soups often result in higher amounts of food waste.
STORAGE & PREP
If you plan on eating them in the next few days, we recommend putting them in the fridge. If you don’t plan on eating them within the week, put them in your freezer. They’re good in the freezer for up to 1 year after the “made on” date listed on the label.
In the fridge, up to one week. In the freezer, up to one year.
We can’t legally tell you that thawing them on the counter is fastest ;) so you can store in the fridge til thawed or zap them in the microwave real quick til they soften a bit then warm on the stove. We’ve had people write in saying they cut down the side of the container and immediately added it to a pot on the stove.
We think heating them on the stove is best. Just add a little water or broth to bring them back to life and they’ll usually be ready in about 15 mins from frozen. If the soup is mostly thawed, it’ll be ready in less than 10 mins (depending on the heat of your stove)
